Artist Statement: It is a gift, a comfort, an idealism artwork, & more important, a ticket home.
Chen Xi, my roommate and one of my dearest friends, often engages in casual conversations with me during our outings, away from the confines of work and business. Our discussions encompass a wide range of topics, including our friends, our aspirations, and our families. Several times, Chen Xi has expressed his deep longing for home and his family, having been separated from them for the past four challenging years. Witnessing his yearning, I feel a profound sense of sadness, as I am unable to directly alleviate his pain. Yet, as an artist, I possess the ability to create something that not only represents my own voice but also has the potential to provide solace to my cherished friend.
A "fake" ticket, that's what I made. I designed texts and patterns, using cultural elements of Chen Xi's hometown. There are two sides of the tickets, on the front is the information on the ticket, and on the back I asked my friend to choose an address and convert it into a QR code, and this address is his secret. But no matter where it is, it must be an important place to Chen Xi.
